Absolute linear encoders consist of a readhead with integrated sensing and processing electronics, and a magnetised scale which acts as the information carrier. The electronics inside the readhead convert the magnetisation signature of the scale into absolute position.

The dual track LMA encoder system offers measuring lengths up to 16.2 m and the extremely short reaction time of less than 1 μs makes it suitable for high bandwidth control loops.

The LMA is highly reliable due to contactless absolute measuring principle, built-in safety algorithms and high quality materials and components used. The status of the measurement is also provided by real time monitoring of several internal parameters, which assures reliable detection of potential failures such as demagnetisation of the scale, overspeed, and incorrect installation, to name a few. This built-in diagnosis adds to the safety level of the application where the encoder is used.
