What are Cookies and Why are They Being Used on the Website, First-Party and Third-Party Cookies

Cookies are small files that get stored on your device (e.g. computer, tablet, telephone) with which you access the Website. What cookies get stored may depend on your device (web browser) settings. Upon each subsequent visit to the Website, the Website checks the contents of the cookies stored on your device.

Generally, the purpose of cookies is a better experience on the Website or ease of use of the Website for Users. Some cookies also help RLS pursue its legitimate interests, e.g. to sell more products or to get to know better the needs of Users. Example: The User puts some products in the shopping cart but doesn’t checkout. The products get stored in the cookie which is saved on User’s computer. Upon the next visit of the Website, the Website reads the information stored in the cookie and fills the shopping cart with the products. The User can checkout, thus saving time by not having to search for products again. At the same time, RLS increases the chance of selling the products in the cart.

Some cookies are placed on Users’ devices by RLS. These are called first-party cookies. Some cookies are placed on Users’ devices by other entities. These are called third-party cookies.

Legal Grounds for the Use of Cookies

The use of cookies is governed by the Electronic Communications Act (Zakon o elektronskih komunikacijah, ZEKom-1).

RLS uses cookies that are strictly necessary for the functioning of Website or service, based on the provision of Paragraph 2, Article 157 of Electronic Communications Act. User may disable these cookies by changing their web browser settings, but this may affect how the Website functions.

RLS uses all other (non-necessary) cookies based on User’s explicit consent.
