MTTF Calculator

The Mean Time To Failure (MTTF) for RM/RE encoders can be calculated using the formula:

M = p × t / n

Where:

• M — Mean Time To Failure value
• t — average length of service
• n — total relevant failures
• p — installed population of readheads

This calculator solves for t (average length of service between failures):

t = M × n / p

For example: MTTF of 500 years, 30 machines × 4 encoders = 120 readheads (p), 1 failure (n) → t = 500 × 1 / 120 ≈ 4.17 years.
