RLS is pleased to announce the launch of Artos, a revolutionary absolute magnetic encoder system that can be used in linear, partial arc or rotary applications. Artos was developed for motion control applications as a feedback element for angle and speed control loops.
Artos is a state-of-the-art encoder system that enables precise position and speed control for motion control applications. Its advanced magnetic technology ensures accurate and consistent measurement with a resolution of up to 23 bits and an accuracy of 54 arcsec for rotary and ±10 μm/m for linear applications. Its robust design makes it suitable for use in demanding environments, with an operating temperature range of -20°C to +85°C and the ability to withstand shock and vibration.
Artos readheads are available in a PCB-A version or in a housing with IP67 protection. The encoder works in linear or rotary applications. The magnetic rings are available in different sizes, from 57 mm to 478 mm outer diameter. The readhead also works with an absolute magnetic scale and supports partial arc applications from the smallest diameter of 200 mm upwards. For partial arc applications, a flexible magnetic scale is used, which can be attached to shafts with larger diameters.
In terms of electrical specifications, Artos has a wide supply voltage range from 4.5V to 30V. Its current consumption is less than 200 mA (without load). It offers BiSS and SSI communication protocols. It has a computational latency of 11 μs and a set-up time of less than 1 second after switching on.
Artos is supplied with a drag-chain-compatible, highly flexible PUR cable with a tinned braided shield. The cable has a maximum length of 15 metres. In terms of environmental data, Artos is designed for use in humid environments (100% humidity, with condensation permitted) and has an IP67 protection rating. It can withstand external magnetic fields of up to 0.5 mT during operation and up to 20 mT when switched off.
