Optical encoders
Renishaw, a world leading metrology company, has a 50% share holding in associate company RLS. Over more than 15 years, both companies have successfully worked together on research projects, joint market strategies and other initiatives aimed at providing our customers with exceptional products and services.
Renishaw optical encoders offer robust and high-performance linear and rotary position measurement using a finely graduated scale and a compact optoelectronic readhead that converts motion relative to the scale into position data.
- Incremental and absolute position measurement available
- Non-contact design - zero hysteresis and no mechanical wear
- Robust optical design - high immunity to dirt, dust and scratches without compromising signal integrity
- Linear scales are used where straight-line position information is needed - usually X, Y or Z axes.
- Incremental encoders are used in applications where instant and accurate relative position is needed, in either analogue or digital format.
- Ultra-High Vacuum (UHV) encoders are optimised for use in vacuum environments.

Linear incremental UHV
Linear scales with incremental readheads compatible with ultra-high vacuum applications
- Rotary scales are used for angular position information and the motion control of rotating elements.
- Incremental encoders are used in applications where instant and accurate relative position is needed, in either analogue or digital format.
- Ultra-High Vacuum (UHV) encoders are optimised for use in vacuum environments.

Rotary incremental UHV
Rotary (angle) rings/discs with incremental readheads compatible with ultra-high vacuum applications
- Linear scales are used where straight-line position information is needed - usually X, Y or Z axes.
- Absolute encoders are used in applications that need a high speed unique digital output for each position and offer functional immunity from power interruptions.
- Ultra-High Vacuum (UHV) encoders are optimised for use in vacuum environments.

Linear absolute UHV
Linear scales with true-absolute readheads compatible with ultra-high vacuum applications
- Rotary scales are used for angular position information and the motion control of rotating elements.
- Absolute encoders are used in applications that need a high speed unique digital output for each position and offer functional immunity from power interruptions.
- Ultra-High Vacuum (UHV) encoders are optimised for use in vacuum enviroments.
- Extended Temperature Range (ETR) encoders are able to operate in environments with extreme high and low temperatures.
